Formal launching of Operation Delta Hawk, a joint security outfit

On August 5, 2015, Governor Okowa inaugurated the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council. The Council has also provided a platform for experience sharing and promoting harmonious inter-ethnic relationships. A 9-man Advocacy Committee Against Vandalism of Oil and Gas Facilities was also inaugurated later, with His Excellency, Barr. (Dcn) Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, Deputy Governor of Delta State, as Chairman. The committee was to among other things, ensure the cessation of the spate of bombings of critical oil and gas infrastructures in Delta and deepen intelligence on the activities of those involved directly or industry.

In May 2020, Governor Okowa also inaugurated two committees on community policing in the State, said the decision to set up the committees was in response to the yearnings of citizens for local policing apparatus to check rising security challenges in the state. The committees are; State Community Policing Advisory Committee (SCPAC) and State Community Policing Committee (SCPC).
In December 2020, the State government formerly inaugurated ‘Operation Delta Hawk’, a new security outfit established by the State Government to enhance the security of lives and property in the state. The outfit is a joint security setup comprising operatives from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, DSS and NSCDC.
